CD replacements US only for now

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Australian customers are being locked out of the CD replacement program that Sony BMG unveiled last week. An email from Sony BMG reportedly says that there are no return programs in place for any countries other than the US, though an international CD replacement program is “being developed.” Time for an Australian lawsuit, I think.

It’s nice to see First 4 internet have finally taken their ad for XCP off their main page, it amuses me that they still have others that seem to imply that they are ‘info security’ experts though!…I would have thought that with the mess they just created that they might want to go on a refresher course in legit programming & general social etiquette!…Finding out what is & is not legal might help a little too!…..

    ****************
Celine Dion - On Ne Change Pas
Note: Over 95% of this title has the UPC 828767262420 and does not contain XCP software. It is not part of this exchange program.
    ****************
Jon Randall - Walking Among The Living
Note: This CD packaging does not contain the XCP Compatible With box.
    ****************
Life Of Agony - Broken Valley
Note: This CD packaging does not contain the XCP Compatible With box.
    ****************
Buddy Jewell - Times Like These
Note: This CD packaging does not contain the XCP Compatible With box.
    ****************
Note: Two titles, Ricky Martin’s “Life” and Neil Diamond’s “12 Songs”, were released with the Compatible With box on the back of the CD packaging but the discs inside do not contain XCP software

It would appear that from the above statements in Canada they have shipped XCP on products that do not contain any information whatsoever regarding these titles. To bad if the consumer is wanting to ‘Update’ the software they have no IDEA how to do this.

It lists the same three titles on the US title page but makes no mention of this for those titles.

Why are you only boycotting the CDs?

Sony’s so big that it has its’ greedy corporate fingers in television, movies, as well as household gadgets.

How about boycotting everything sony touches? That’s what I’ll do in the future, and I recommend that people do the same.

If there are alternatives to a sony product, buy the alternative.

Sony XCP software and Australian Law

    Release: Sat 19th Nov 2005

A new Internet Blog asserts that Sony BMG has seriously broken Australian law.

So called DRM or “anti-piracy” software bundled with Sony BMG music CD’s since mid year has become one of the most serious virus infections ever.

Despite Sony’s public assurances CD’s containing the malware are still on sale in Australian music shops.
